Cheers!! QuinDao 青島

QuinDao, a northern city where has China beer fest (8/12~ 8/27), will hold windsurfing/ sailing contest in Bejing Olympic Game, and has a western-style seashore with 2 stories villas along the coast. This has been included in my retire residence list after Santorini (Greece) and LA.

Return to Kenting- Return to My Paradise

Written on 2006/07/11
(Due to the fact that this is an international blog site, I'll try to add in English translation eventually for my overseas readers.)

Ha! Actually I didn't mean to be so sentimental, it looked a bit pretentious indeed...

Anyway, I thought I'd be chilled out on my ocean-facing balcony all the time reading, drinking beers, enjoying the sun shine and a quiet time of my own, but as soon as I walked into Zi-Li dive shop, the plan got totally changed...

The auntie in the shop recognized me and called the nickname they gave to me before (I felt so touched), then Bro Bin (my dive coach friend) welcomed me with his big smile and asked his 14 yo son Kay took me to surf and instructed me. Later on coach Jeff showed us a cool surf trick and Kay's younger bro Yo-Chen also played with us in the water. Meanwhile my coworker Daphne and her cousin came to join us, plus 17 yo coach Wang, people from OK hill hotel- Sing, Lin, and Wei, the whole group of people were just having as much fun as we can doing body surf and no one felt like coming out of water until sun down.

That night we were invited by Wei to OK hill hotel to see his strip show. He FINALLY looked like a "professional" striper after putting on those fluorescent pants and top and starting swinging along with the music (Have you seen a male striper with a beer belly? Then you know what I mean.) It was my first time watching male strip show in Taiwan, and I was actually a bit embarrassed to see a short half-naked taiwanese guy with his mid-aged body shape shaking his butt on the stage (Lord forgive me for being so honest). Daphne's cousin got invited to the stage but except for being asked to touch his chest/penis/butt, Wei took off her bikini from inside the top and also put a penis shaped vibrator (it's actually a water gun) on her hand. Arrrghhh... We all wondered who got benifits in this performance... the ladies, or the male striper and the audience down the stage? Fortunately at the second show the 17 yo coach Wang got invited to the stage, which finally made the show funnier. Wei took off Wang's clothes and cut out his underwear into a speedo (everytime Wei would do this to him so he got to buy new underwear all the time!), then put on a small bag on his privacy then took off the speedo, along with cousin's bikini Wei started to lead Wang to walk around the whole pub and swing their butt to the audience. Wang did all Wei's requests with his big shy smile in the whole performance and he indeed brought some screams and laughs. Wang is such a good boy.

The second day we drove a scooter to Nan-Wan (south bay) for a swim, where is more shallow, flat, and has less rocks and lower waves than ChuanFanShih (sailboat rock, where Zi-Li locates), while it's much busier and crowded with tourists. I intended to rent a surf board cuz the waves were so perfect for surfing but I didn't at the end. Instead I swam and took a nice short nap there. Later afternoon I popped in Zi-Li again but due to the big wave we couldn't go into the water. Lin asked Kay to teach him surfing so we all followed Lin to OK hill hotel's swimming pool to practice. The hotel just renewed its water slide from kiddie size to a 2 circled long tunnel, and in 10 secs it gets you from 2 story height to the bottom. Quite fun and pretty fast that you don't get stuck in the middle way. 12 yo Yo-Chen was so funny that he took a hula hoop into the pool and tried to mimic the trick "dolphin jumps over the fire ring". Kay was, on the other hand, pretty serious at teaching Lin how to flap and control the board, and I of course also tried to tap the tips and practiced aside privately.:P On the way back to Zi-Li Kay whined a bit, as a joke, about how busy he was been in his summer vacation, that he not only had to work in his dad's shop in the day time but also teaching us surfing for free in the evening. Nevertheless, I saw the passion, the enthusiasm, and the sence of achievement in his eyes to water sports and of being a young coach.

At night Bro Bin called to invite me to a folk bar for a drink and some music. Accidentally I was left alone with coach A-Yi, who's been too depressed (with life and work) to socialize with anyone, while suprisingly we had a close conversation with each other. Being in same zodiac sign, I totally understood the reason he lost his passion to life and everything. I guess C'est la Vie! and everyone of us is living on it, just like ocean waves no one can predict when it'll be on the "high" or when on the "low". Sometimes you can ride on the wave but sometimes you have to follow the flow. Altho it's so unpredictable, after the surge there'd always follow by tamed smooth rippes. The point here is, when surge comes you should bend down your head to pass thru it, otherwise you'd only drown yourself if breaking into it. This is what I learned from Bro Bin.

That night 3 bottles of 40% tequila stroke down 4 big guys. It was actually a drinking conference, where the head of Nan-Wan and the head of Sailboat rock (Bro Bin) were having a confrontation for the management of jet ski in kenting area and trying to reach an agreement so as to propose to government for a self-governed business. I was at first a bit embarrassed at joining in the "conference" accidentally, but eventually those Big Bros started to tease and laugh at each other like little boys for trying to cool down the fierce air they brought up, in addition Bro Bin even started to play guitar and everyone followed to sing along, the whole "serious conference" at last became a crazy drinking and singing party. I couldn't help appreciating, with all repect, those Big Bros' way of handling issues and their frank generous mind.

The third day I took Mom for a short biking, from sailboat rock to Eulanbi (goose nose cape). The bikes were voluntarily lented by the hotel lady as she learnt that we didn't rent a scooter for the rest of days. She's so nice and so as the family. The whole ride was pretty easy and relaxing. The road doesn't have steep slopes and only few shops and tourist cars were around. A lot of Go-Kart fields had been built in this area and since we never did it before, we both were pretty excited at giving it a try. The wheel is much heavier to control than my imagination, and I was actually a bit nervous at beginning. But after 1 round I'd got more familiar with the drive so I started to race fearlessly. I especially liked the curves where pulled you away from the axis and I'd always lean down a bit to against the pull which made me feel like a professional car racer.:P Too bad after 2 rounds a group of family came to join in, so the lanes got too busy to do the real race and I had to yield to a young girl who never drove and got freaked out even under the speed of 5km/hr. Poor girl.

That night before Mom left we had our dinner on our balcony at hotel, along with the sound of ocean waves and moonlight, we had a quality Mom-Daughter time and talks (Thanks to Mom's cooperation!:P) Guess we both would keep this moment in our memories forever.

(to be continued...)
